Australian Bastard Cannabis – What Is It?

ABC could be growing in people’s backyards across Australia without them even knowing it, but what is it, and why is it so special?

If you haven’t heard of Australian Bastard Cannabis (ABC), don’t feel bad. Not a lot of people have. The physical characteristics of ABC actually make it very distinctive from other strains of cannabis, and those characteristics could actually be an advantage for anyone looking for the ultimate stealth strain.

In the following article, we’ll take a closer look at Australian Bastard Cannabis, what it is, what it looks like, and what makes it so different from the cannabis strains that we all know and love. If you love learning about cannabis, then you’ve come to the right place!

What Is Australian Bastard Cannabis?

What we do know about ABC mostly comes from growers and enthusiasts. Unlike many other strains, it hasn’t been extensively studied. Over the years there have been many successful breeding projects to get that unique physical appearance and frost-resistant qualities, and otherwise very resilience. Here at TerpyZ we pride ourselves on having one of the largest collections of pure ABC lines as well as plenty of hybrids.

It’s believed that the strain was originally bought into Australia in the mid-1800s as part of a trial to grow cannabis plants in what was deemed a fairly hostile environment to most other crops. Unlike today, crop trials back in the day were a little less controlled and many of the original strains spread out into the countryside, growing like weeds. It’s believed that ABC could be a mutation of one of these early cannabis strains that somehow survived later attempts to eradicate the wild cannabis plants.

Another theory is that ABC is actually an original Australian cannabis strain that became genetically isolated when Australia became a separate landmass many years ago. An interesting theory is that the Aboriginies brought Cannabis plants with them to Australia and it adapted to the harsh environment.

The physical appearance of ABC more closely resembles a hop plant which is a relative to the cannabis plant or some compare the look of the leaves to parsley. It has an approximate THC content of 5%, which is extremely low compared to the big hitters of the cannabis world today. Still, it does possess high terpene levels, including Myrcene, Terpinolene, and Limonene, giving it a very unique and rare taste profile. Many of our Hybrids have far higher THC contents than the pure ABC strains, ranging from 10-18%, making them rather hard hitters in combination with a strong terpene profile.

We know that 5% THC sucks for some consumers, but remember that the pure landrace strain hasn’t been selectively bred over generations in carefully controlled environments and is mostly untouched and left to do its own thing in the wild. And the value for breeding is very high. And if you like to have the stealth appearance of an ABC while getting more potent flowers, our ABC collection is the right place to look.

Currently, there is little knowledge about ABC, largely due to Australia’s restrictive drug legislation. Still, there is a possibility that it could change in the future, and strains such as Australian Bastard Cannabis could enjoy the same levels of research as many other strains.
