2023

The first Mentha de Croco generation

The first Mentha de Croco F1 seeds were germinated, beginning selection within the new combination. From this generation, work branched into the Mentha de Croco “Croco” F2 regular line and the Mentha de Croco “Fern Type” F2 and Bx1.

Throughout 2023, extensive seed hunts and breeding work developed both the Croco and Fern Type branches. This work led into the next generation and the first backcross (BX1), which also saw a regular-seed release.

This was also a particularly productive year for the wider breeding programme, with Zacateca Skunk, Remintz, Pineapple Croco, Lamb’s Cheese, Guava Mezcal and Cheddar Mints created alongside the core Mentha de Croco work. The programme expanded through F2 and F3 generations, backcrosses and numerous outcrosses exploring different leaf morphologies.

Refinement

2024 — Refining Mentha de Croco

In 2024, we began our first efforts to stabilise the Raptor leaf form, alongside multigenerational outcrosses and subsequent incrosses. We further refined our Fern-type selections for broader, more complex aromas, shifting the selection focus away from the heavy-hitting effects that characterised the first regular release. This work laid the foundation for today’s feminized Mentha de Croco line.

Mentha de Croco Bx1 F2 Feminized 

Mentha de Croco “Fern Type” BX1 F2 Feminized
The work culminated in Mentha de Croco “Fern Type” BX1 F2 Feminized—the current line, developed through successive generations of crossing, seed hunts, backcrossing and selection since the project began in 2020.

Mentha de Croco Bx1 F2 (Fem) is the long-anticipated next chapter of the MDC line—selected to lock in the fern-type morphology and refine the flavour toward a complex Lemon-Chem profile while carrying the full MDC signature into a feminized format. Expect stocky, heavily packed plants that put weight on fast, with low leaf-to-calyx ratios and crystalline resin. Leaf expression spans the fern spectrum: some with finer, snowflake-like leaflets, others like the cover photo for excellent canopy light penetration. During testing we also flagged a rare outlier with a perfumy blueberry twist—potent, pretty and absolutely worth a stake.

We developed an S1 version of Mentha de Croco and intensified our outcrossing programme. Building on earlier selections, we explored new combinations of aroma, flavour and plant form, expanding the family and laying the groundwork for further development.

The Raptor & More

The Raptor Programme
We continued developing a feminized line with pure Raptor Fern-type morphology. This dedicated programme focuses on selection and stabilisation, working towards consistent expression of its distinctive leaf form.

New Outcrosses
In 2026, we intensified our work with classic-leaf cultivars, including Ice Cream Cake and RS11. The wider programme includes Gary & Gas, ZITRO, Chembull —expanding the family’s range of aromas and genetic combinations.

The Cheesus Christ Branch
We continued developing Guava Mezcal “Cheesus Christ Cut” by crosses like Parmelon, combining it with Sour Melon; Lavender & Cheese, with (Shoreline × Mentha de Croco) F2; Rock4, with Mentha de Kosher; and Zacatecas Cheese, with Zacatecas Skunk. Each takes this distinctive cheese-focused branch in a different direction.

Reconnecting the Family
Our recrossing work brought selected descendants back to Mentha de Croco Bx1. These combinations include Parmiguave, with Guava Mezcal “Cheesus Christ Cut”; The Reek, with Mentha de Kosher, reconnecting another family branch with its mutant origins.
